No third front with neglected parties: Chandralekha

By Our Staff Reporter

MADURAI, APRIL 7.The Janata Party does not favour forming a third front with the support of those parties which have been left in the cold by the AIADMK and the DMK, said its Tamil Nadu president, Ms. V. S. Chandralekha. Releasing the first list of the party's candidates for the Assembly polls, Ms. Chandralekha said the scope for the third front had in fact vanished as early as December, 2000, with the reluctance on the part of the TMC to back the proposal of the party's national president, Dr. Subramanian Swamy.

Ms. Chandralekha said she had no plans to contest as there was no encouraging response from Oppostition parties to her appeal for ``common candidature'' against the AIADMK supremo, Ms. Jayalalitha.

Following is the list of 20 candidates released by Ms. Chandralekha (with names of constituencies in brackets): Messrs. A. Stalin (Madurai Central), M. S. Balu (Madurai West), A. Sasikumar (Tirupparankundram), N. Dharmar Anbalam (Melur), A. Tirumuraimudalvan (Samayanallur), S. Manoharan (Sholavandan), S. Prabakaran (Tirupathur), L. Varadan (Tiruchi-2), Senthil Kumar (Thottiam), S. Adikesavan (Pattukottai), K. N. R. Ashok Kumar (Kumbakonam), Sundararajan (Omalur), Alwaz (Udhagamandalam), Kathavarayan (Karur), Ganesan (Kadaladi), A. Sultan Mia (Periyakulam), M. R. Soundararajan (Pudukottai), Varadarajan (Vellore), Nellai Koman (Cheranmahadevi) and Ms. Zareena Begum (Madurai East).

Another list of candidates of the Janata Party ally, Bharatiya Forward Bloc, would be released.
