Verma remand extended

NEW DELHI, APRIL 7. A Delhi court today further remanded to police custody the suspended Chairman of the Central Board of Excise & Customs, Mr. B.P. Verma, and three others in a criminal conspiracy-cum-bribery case.

The Special Judge, Mr. R.L. Chug, allowed a Central Bureau of Investigation request to extend Mr. Verma's remand when counsel for the investigating agency submitted that he had not been questioned properly as he was in hospital during much of the remand given earlier.

The Judge allowed the CBI to question Mr. Verma till April 11 while Ms. Bhavana Pandey, an asociate of Mr. Verma, his son, Mr. Siddharth Verma, and Mr. Rajeev Sharma, an employee of Mr. Siddharth Verma, would remain in CBI custody till April 9.
