GSLV launch on April 18
By Our Science Correspondent
BANGALORE, APRIL 7. The first developmental launch of the
Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) has been
rescheduled for April 18, allowing time for the faulty engine,
which created the problem at the previous launch attempt, to be
replaced with a standby engine.
The launch attempt on March 28 was aborted a second before lift-
off after the four strap-on boosters, powered by the Vikas
engine, of one of the launch vehicles, failed to develop the
required thrust.
A press release issued today by the Indian Space Research
Organisation(ISRO)stated that the problem had been traced to
``defective plumbing in the oxidiser flow line of the engine,
which had escaped detection during testing.''
